SEO, AEO & GEO

GEO: content AI search can interpret.

GEO (generative engine optimization) prepares your information for AI search tools. We make it clear, checkable and consistent, but no one can promise an AI will cite it.

What is generative engine optimization?

Generative engine optimization makes your information clear, structured and checkable enough for AI search tools to understand and credit correctly. That means clear facts, the key fact first, consistent business details and depth on your topic. ASquared Creatives works on those qualities; whether an AI tool then links a page is its own decision.

01/WHAT YOU GET

What you get.

  • A review of how citable your content is
  • Key sections rewritten with checkable claims
  • Consistent names and details across pages in scope
  • A review of AI crawler rules, explained first
  • Business page data matching what the site states
  • Dated checks of answers in AI tools

A good fit for

  • Businesses whose buyers now ask AI assistants their questions
  • Companies AI tools describe wrongly, or not at all
  • Sites whose service names and details vary between pages
02/HOW IT WORKS

How the work runs.

  1. Choose the questions

We agree the questions buyers ask before choosing a provider, and record how AI tools answer them now.

  2. Review the evidence

We check every claim on those pages for a verifiable basis, or a reason to remove it.

  3. Restructure and source

We move key facts first and make sentences stand alone, with evidence beside each claim.

  4. Align the entity

We make names, services and details consistent across pages, page data and profiles you own.

  5. Observe and repeat

We check the same questions again and record dated results, alongside Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

03/PROBLEMS

What we fix.

  • Problem

Claims with nothing to back them

    What we do

We check each claim, then back it with evidence or remove it.

  • Problem

    The key fact arrives last

    What we do

We move key facts to the start of each section, in sentences that stand alone.

  • Problem

Your business described five different ways

    What we do

We make names, services and details match across your pages, page data and your own profiles.

05/QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

How do you measure GEO when AI citations are not guaranteed?

With data that exists, and observations labeled as observations. Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools show indexing, impressions and clicks, and analytics can show visits referred from AI products that pass referral data. Manual checks of agreed questions in AI tools are recorded with dates, as snapshots of a changing system rather than a ranking.

Do we need an llms.txt file?

Not for Google. Google Search does not require llms.txt files, and they do not affect visibility or rankings there. It is a proposed format that some tools may read, but it is not presented here as a requirement, and no one can promise that a particular engine uses it.

Should we block AI crawlers like GPTBot?

It depends on what you want, and the decision splits in two: training and search. GPTBot and ClaudeBot collect data for model training, while OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot serve search features. Blocking GPTBot does not stop a site appearing in ChatGPT search, while blocking a search crawler can reduce or remove visibility in that search product. Blocking the Google-Extended token does not affect inclusion in Google Search.

Do our pages need named authors for AI search?

Named authors with real credentials help readers judge expertise, and accurate bylines are worth adding where readers would expect one. They must be real. No author, persona or credential is ever invented, and a page without a real author makes no claim about authorship rather than implying expertise it cannot show.

How quickly does GEO work show up in AI answers?

There is no reliable timeline. Changes must be crawled and indexed first, and AI systems then decide independently whether and how to use them, on schedules they do not publish. We record a baseline before the changes and check the same questions afterward, reporting what changed as observations rather than as a promised result.

06/THE FULL DETAIL

The full detail.

Short answers are above. Open a panel below for the specifics: how we decide, what is included and the deeper questions.

Is this the right choice?

  • Choose GEO when AI answers about your field matter to your buyers.

Your buyers use AI assistants and AI search on the way to a decision, and the accuracy of what those tools say about your subject and your business matters.

  • Choose answer engine optimization when the goal is an extracted answer.

Featured snippets and spoken answers depend on question-led structure more than on sourcing. The two overlap, and AEO is usually done first.

  • Start with technical SEO when pages are not indexed.

Pages shown in Google AI features must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet. A page outside the index is outside AI search as well.

How do AI search engines choose which sources to link?

AI search engines do not publish their selection criteria in detail. In Google Search, a page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet to appear as a supporting link in AI features, no special optimization is needed, and several related searches may be run for one question. Beyond that, the choice belongs to the engine.

What can be said with confidence is what makes a passage easy to use correctly: it answers a specific question, states facts plainly, stands on its own and points to the evidence behind it. Content with those qualities is more useful to any system that retrieves and summarizes text, and more useful to the person reading it.

  • Indexed and eligible to show a snippet, as Google Search requires.
  • Crawlable by the search crawler the AI product uses.
  • A specific question answered in plain, self-contained sentences.
  • Claims that can be checked against the evidence behind them.
  • Details consistent with the rest of the site.

What makes a sentence citable?

A citable sentence is complete, specific and verifiable. It names its subject instead of relying on a pronoun, states one fact, and includes the figure or condition that makes the fact precise. Taken out of the page, it still says something true, and the evidence behind it holds up when somebody checks.

Compare a sentence saying a website is fast with one saying that its main content loads within 2.5 seconds for three quarters of real visits. The first cannot be repeated responsibly; the second can, because it is specific and says how it was measured. The same test applies to every claim a business makes about itself, which is why unsupported claims are removed rather than reworded.

Does GEO mean writing like an encyclopedia?

No. It means writing so that facts are clear and supported. A service page can still make a direct commercial case, as long as the statements it makes are specific, accurate and checkable.

Should figures from industry reports be used?

Only when the figure can be traced to the original source and checked there. A figure repeated from a secondary summary, with no way back to where it was first published, is exactly the kind of claim that becomes wrong when it is repeated again.

Why does evidence matter more than volume for AI search?

Evidence matters more than volume because AI search builds answers from material it can use accurately, and adding pages does not make any of them more accurate. A smaller set of pages answering real questions with specific, sourced statements gives any retrieval system better material than many pages repeating unsupported claims.

In Google Search, scaled content made mainly to manipulate rankings is a spam-policy violation, and unique content that visitors find helpful matters for its AI features. Topical depth still matters: covering a subject thoroughly across well-linked pages is different from publishing many thin pages about it.

  • Specific statements rather than general claims.
  • Claims verifiable from the evidence behind them.
  • Figures dated, so readers know when they applied.
  • One page per question, linked to its related pages.
  • Unsupported claims removed rather than softened.

What can be ignored when optimizing for AI search?

Several widely sold tactics can be ignored for Google AI features. Those features need no special structured data, AI text files or Markdown versions, content does not have to be broken into tiny pieces, and seeking inauthentic mentions across the web is not as helpful as it might seem.

Other AI search products document less, so the same caution applies: treat a tactic as unproven until the company operating the engine documents it. The llms.txt file is a proposed format; Google Search does not require it, and it does not affect visibility or rankings there. It is not presented here as a requirement for any engine.

Do AI crawlers need to be allowed in robots.txt?

Only the crawlers of products you want to appear in. OAI-SearchBot and Claude-SearchBot serve search features while GPTBot and ClaudeBot collect training data, and PerplexityBot serves Perplexity search, so a site can allow search crawlers while declining training crawlers. Blocking a search crawler can reduce or remove visibility in the search answers of that product.

Everything included

How AI search builds an answer.

AI Overviews and AI Mode may run several related searches to develop a response. The simplified sequence below shows where clear, sourced content fits, and where the engine takes over.

  1. 01

    Question

A person asks a question, often longer and more conversational than a traditional search query.

  2. 02

    Fan-out retrieval

The system runs several related searches across subtopics and sources to gather candidate passages.

  3. 03

    Synthesis

A generated answer is written from the passages the system judges most useful for the question.

  4. 04

    Linked sources

Some of the pages behind the answer are shown as links, which a reader can follow to check it.

This describes AI Overviews and AI Mode in Google Search; other AI search products work differently and disclose less. Being indexed and eligible for a snippet makes a page eligible to appear, and which sources are selected is always decided by the engine.

Why it matters

  • Information that survives being quoted

A self-contained, sourced statement stays accurate when an AI system repeats part of it, which protects how the business is represented.

  • A clearer picture of the business

Consistent names and details make it easier for any system, or any person, to tell what the company does and which pages describe it.

  • Content worth trusting

Removing unsupported claims and citing primary sources makes pages more credible to readers, whether or not an engine ever cites them.

  • Decisions made deliberately

AI crawler access, structured data and file formats are chosen with their documented effects known, rather than copied from a checklist.

Where it applies

  • A service business asked about in AI tools

Buyers ask assistants which providers to consider and what to look for. Clear, sourced service pages give those systems accurate material to draw on.

  • A knowledge-heavy site full of expertise

The knowledge is real but buried in prose. Restructuring it into citable statements with sources makes it far easier to use correctly.

  • A site that blocked AI crawlers years ago

An old rule blocks every AI crawler. Separating search crawlers from training crawlers lets the business choose each trade-off on purpose.

Technology and approach

  • Decisions rest on verified platform behavior, not on claims about how engines secretly rank sources.
  • Key facts come first in every section, stated in sentences that remain correct when quoted on their own.
  • Figures and claims are checked against the evidence behind them before publishing, or they are removed.
  • AI search crawlers and AI training crawlers are separate decisions in robots.txt, each with its trade-off explained.
  • Special AI text files, seeded mentions and fragment-sized rewrites are never sold as requirements, because Google AI features need none of them.
  • Authorship is shown only where real authors with real credentials exist, and no persona or credential is ever invented.
  • Results are reported as Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools data plus dated observations, never as a guaranteed AI ranking.
